Nana Aba condemned over ‘pedestrian’ Mahama question

Nana Aba Anamoah became the subject of renewed criticism on social media after she asked a question deemed by some users to be pedestrian and unnecessary during President John Mahama’s media interaction at the Flagstaff on Tuesday.

The journalist, who last year resigned her job as a presenter and news anchor with TV3, posed a question to the President, asking to the know how he was dealing with the pressures of his office.

Nana Aba said: “Good afternoon, Mr President and Happy New Year to you… I want to know from you, since your assumption of office, what you have done to reduce pressure on you…. on the Presidency, because if any prominent person dies in this country, they call on the President… a business delegation calls on the President. Anything at all, the President is referred to. What have you done to reduce the pressure on yourself to concentrate on the things you find important, and what keeps you awake at night?”

Immediately after the question, some social media users said it was a weak question posed to the President.

It instantly drew scorn and criticism on social media, especially on Twitter.

Despite the criticisms, there were words of support for Nana Aba by other Twitter users.

In responding to Nana Aba’s question, the President said he was easing pressure on himself by delegating some of his responsibilities to the Vice-President, the Chief of Staff and other Ministers of State.

President Mahama said he was sometimes kept awake by thoughts on how to institute policies that would improve the well-being of Ghanaians.

Nana Aba was mocked on social media late last year after pictures she shared of herself watching a Manchester United match at Old Trafford in the UK turned out to be photoshopped.

She later indicated that sharing the pictures was meant to be a prank.
