Irene Logan “surrenders” at Celebration of His Grace
Irene Logan is mostly known for performing love songs but she entered a moment of spiritual upliftment when she mounted the stage during the Celebration of His Grace concert last Saturday.
The Afro Pop artiste obviously surrended her all as she did a cover of Winfield S. Weeden’s I Surrender All and led patrons through a time of praise and worship at this year’s concert held at the National Theatre Celebration .
That is not all, with hands lifted high as a sign of surrender, the audience joined Irene when she sang Great is Thy faithfulness in admiration of God’s faithful nature.
The Runaway singer interspersed her act with preachings about the wondrous works of God and His saving grace which brings hope to the lost.
Prior to Irene’s performance, the headline artiste on the night, Bernard Amankwah had led patrons through a reggae session of the concert where he got guests to go “ire”.
Backed by the Presence Ministry band, the Presence artiste performed reggae tunes from his repertoire including Stolen Waters, Thank You Lord, Mercy Rescue Me and Lord You Are Good.
She may not be popular on the gospel music scene but Jackie Mpare won new hearts with her ministration on the night. She heated the auditorium with How Great Thou Art followed by Jehovah Is Your Name. Her rendition of We Stand Amazed was good and she got the audience to dance to Woda So Ye Nyame as she exited the sage.
She put up such a good show. She just knew how to get her audience in the “spiritual mood”. Perhaps, her calm demeanour, exceptional vocals and her ability to connect with patrons did the magic for her. The loud applause that greeted her exit was evidence of the impact she’s had on the patrons.
The night was crowned with a performance from the trio—Bernard Amankwah, Irene Logan and Jackie Mpare who took patrons to another level with songs such as Holy Are You Lord, I Call You Faithful and Presence.
Even though everything was set for commencement at the advertised time of 4:00pm, organisers had to wait for patrons who rather got in late. The evening’s activities kicked off with a poetry recital from Harmony Attise on peace. Right after, Alexandra Elumelu took her turn to dish out some popular songs to set the right mood for the night.
Coming off in an election year, the event was sub-themed, ‘Peace Concert’ and peace ambassadors—Rev Dr. Nana Yaa Owusu-Prempeh and Bice Osei Kuffuor, President of MUSIGA delivered peace messages.
But for a few technical problems, this year’s Celebration of His Grace concert which was hosted by Rev Mike Abosse was a well organised event. However, it recorded very low patronage compared to last year.
In an interview with Showbiz after the event, Bernard said he was satisfied at the turn out since he least expected such patronage.
“Well, I know the numbers were higher last year but this year, I had less than two weeks for publicity and we also faced some other challenges. However, I’m happy my team and I pulled off a great show,” he said.
