'Gold Coast Sickness' concert at Alliance Francaise
Yaw ‘Zohzoh’ Boateng, a New Zealand-based Ghanaian musician, will be the main attraction at a concert ‘Gold Coast Sickness’ on Saturday, August 10 at the Alliance Francaise in Accra.
Zohzoh says the theme of ‘Gold Coast Sickness’ is meant to be an awakening message for the entire continent of Africa to end and free themselves from mental slavery and work toward a positive future for the youth.
He claims that after political independence, Africans now need to seek freedom from mental slavery and would show a way to that through his socio-political lyrics clothed in catchy highlife and Afro-beat.
Zohzoh has been based in New Zealand for over 10 years and has two albums under his name. He has played on the same stage with South African great, Hugh Masekela and says Fela Anikulapo Kuti and other musicians from West Africa and the Caribbean are his major influences.
Show organiser, Mark Hansen indicated that Germany-based African-American storyteller, Bernadette ‘Oma Be’ Williams will also be at the show with uplifting stories.
Bernadette, a retired United States government worker, now devotes her time and energies traveling the world, teaching and entertaining audiences of all ages.
She enjoys using her storytelling expertise as a tool to motivate and inspire while preserving and passing on the folklore and legends of Africans and their descendants.
Mark Hansen added that an exciting traditional band will also be in attendance to add more spice to the show which kicks off at 7.00pm
