Kobby takes a new path

Going solo after a group’s split has always posed a great challenge to the parties involved especially when they are expected to keep up with the great works that they have been known for.

But for Wutah Kobby, one half of the defunct Wutah group, such “pressure” from the public has never been a bother to him since he is taking a new path which he is more comfortable with.

That path, Wutah Kobby now known as Kobby said was his move from being a “baritone” singer doing raga during his time with Wutah to a more comfortable highlife zone, a genre that he claims defines his personal interest in music.

He told Showbiz last Tuesday that even though many young Ghanaian artistes love to do hiplife and recently dancehall, he was now a crusader for highlife.

“Highlife is the only genre that identifies the Ghanaian culture and heritage. It is the original Ghanaian music we can boast of. It is timeless but it is just unfortunate that it’s not been given the needed attention it requires. It even impact positively on the youth more because it mostly adopts folklore and proverbs that teach moral lessons” he stated.

Since going solo some four years ago, Kobby has churned out some highlife songs including Chio Chioo, Piiporpii and Tsotsoo. His latest song, Endless Love, is also in the highlife vein.

Recorded by Infectious Sounds at Taifa, Endless Love which features Quarmy Ziggy is a good piece where Kobby puts his vocals to test.

The duo talks about how their love for a particular woman is “burning their hearts like fire” and her beauty has swept them off their feet.

Kobby who is currently promoting Endless Love which was released last month said that he is working in the studios for his upcoming second solo album, God and Love.

Real name, Daniel N. Morris, Kobby shot to fame as a member of Wutah in 2004 when they released their debut album, Burning Desire. Big Dreams, one of the songs on the album earned them  the Reggae Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards in 2005.
