McDan sponsors Rackets’ Davis Cup trip
McDan Group of Companies has paid $13,000 to ensure the national tennis team, Golden Rackets, take part in the forthcoming Davis Cup tennis tournament in Egypt.
Ghana’s contingent, comprising George Darko and Wisdom Na-Adjrago, who won gold at the recent All Africa Games (AAG), Japheth Bagerbaseh and Pascal Ziyab Alome, are in Morocco for a week’s training tour en route to Egypt to participate in the competition which starts from October 26 to 31.
Mr Daniel Mckorley, otherwise known, as McDan in tennis circles, the Chief Executive of the Group, presented the money to Ms Philippina Frimpong, the General secretary of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).
She told the Daily Graphic that apart from the tour being sponsored by McDan Group of Companies, the company had also released $2, 500 to transport a National Sports Authority (NSA) coach, Joseph Acquah, from Kumasi to join the team in Egypt for the tournament.
According to Ms Frimpong, the tour is expected to improve the skills of the players to prepare them adequately and put them in the best of shapes to compete favourably at the tournament.
“The package included accommodation, feeding and pocket money to motivate the team to concentrate on the training tour at the ITF High Performance Centre in Casablanca,” she said, adding that the Sports Minister had promised to raise funds to support the players in the Davis Cup tournament.
Ms Frimpong expressed the appreciation of the federation to the McDan Group of Companies for their immense support and appealed to corporate bodies to assist the team to win honours for the nation.
