Exchequers, Trustees clash in Beige Capital KO
Exchequers of the Bank of Ghana will be trying to cause a major upset in the men’s final of the BEIGE Capital Knock-Out when they engage the undisputed champions of the Greater Accra Hockey League, Trustees, at the Theodosia Okoh Stadium.
Trustees, who represent the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, have shown no will to relent despite an already bulging trophy cabinet and the loss of two of their most influential players, former captain Matthew Damalie and his deputy Ernest Opoku, to the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The duo played a key role in Trustees’ triumphs in retaining the league and gala but in their absence, the likes of Insalbini Salya, Samuel Afari and the talented Johnny Botsio have thrived with efficient dismissals of Goldensticks (2-0) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (3-0) in the BEIGE
Meanwhile, Exchequers, coached by Winfred Sackey, have been under-achievers for sometime now and the likes of national star Elikem Akaba and goalie Amadu Abdallah will be hoping to end the season on a high note with an unlikely victory.
Exchequers booked a spot in the final after a 4-1 win over Reformers and a surprise 3-3 draw which saw them progress at the expense of last year’s winners, Police.
In the women’s final, holders Police Ladies will seek to avoid a potential banana skin when they clash with Extinguishers of the Ghana National Fire Service.
Police qualified for the final with wins over Reformers (2-0) and Ark Ladies (4-0), while giant-killers, Extinguishers, thrashed last year’s losing finalists.
At stake for the winners and runners-up in the various categories are trophies and souvenirs from the sponsors, BEIGE Capital.
