Black Stars: Ghana’s new national team jerseys celebrate culture and unity

PUMA has unveiled the latest home and away kits for Ghana’s national football teams, showcasing a design deeply rooted in the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The launch forms part of a broader initiative celebrating African identity and craftsmanship through football, with kits also released for Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, Morocco, and Senegal.

The Black Stars' home jersey prominently features traditional Adinkra symbols in an intricate all-over pattern, representing unity among Ghanaian tribes. At the centre of the white jersey sits the iconic black star, a symbol synonymous with Ghana’s identity.

Designed by Ghanaian creative Jefferson Osei in collaboration with renowned painter Daniel Alum Jasper, the Adinkra symbols on the jersey gain prominence as players perspire, providing a dynamic visual effect.

The away kit takes inspiration from Ghana’s historical Gold Coast, radiating in a bright yellow hue. Adinkra symbols are subtly incorporated into the sleeves, with the overall design paying homage to the colours often found in Ghanaian art and culture.

Jefferson Osei’s vision was to unite the diverse tribes of Ghana through the kits. By working with Jasper to craft a custom graphic print, the design resonates with Ghanaians across the country, blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after their recent draw against Angola, the Black Stars’ new kits signal a fresh chapter for Ghanaian football.

Marco Mueller, Senior Head of Product Line Management at PUMA, highlighted the cultural significance of the kits, saying: “We are incredibly proud to unveil these kits, ones that will be worn by some of the best nations, players and fans on the continent. Africa is part of the PUMA DNA, and we are proud to work together with our fantastic nations. The designs come at an exciting time for African football, and we’re eager to see the next iconic moments in these kits.”

The replica jerseys, available globally from 15th November 2024, feature PUMA’s RE:FIBRE recycling technology, ensuring at least 95percent of the fabric comes from recycled textile waste. The authentic match jerseys incorporate PUMA’s ULTRAWEAVE fabric for enhanced performance, offering a lightweight and frictionless experience for players.
