Yamoah Ponkoh rejected by Ejisu-Juaben Assembly members
The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly in Ashanti, Mr Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh, who has been re-appointed was rejected by Assembly Members for his second four-year term.
At a voting Tuesday, he secured 25 votes out of a total of 66 from members of the Assembly. He now has 10 days to lobby members to support his appointment before the Assembly re-convene for a second voting on his appointment.
Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh's rejection was anticipated as a result of a series of agitations by both some NDC party faithfuls and indigenes when his re-appointment was announced.
Those who opposed his re-appointment accused him of being “autocratic and domineering” in his style of leadership.
The NDC Ejisu-Juaben constituency chairman, Eugene Agyarko has been vociferous in opposing the MCE’s leadership.
But Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh whose tenure as MCE has seen many developmental projects in the district, is confident of a comeback as he thinks absentee voters, especially government appointees, caused his rejection.
