Security, sanitation key challenges facing Trobu

The Assembly member for the Trobu Electoral Area, Mr Mandela Edward Wiafe, has identified security and sanitation as key challenges facing the area.

In line with this, he has courted the support of the Ga West Municipal Assembly for the development of some projects to alleviate the plight of the people.

Development activities

Expatiating on the projects in an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Wiafe mentioned his involvement in the National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercises, repairs and donation of street lights to illuminate some of the areas at night to prevent thieves from terrorising the people.

He added that he organised a successful town hall meeting to solicit ideas from the people and proposed suitable solutions to the various challenges in the area.

Mr Wiafe won the last district level elections with 794 votes representing 54.12 per cent out of a total of 1,457 valid votes cast.

He said since he assumed office he had tried hard to spearhead the rehabilitation of the 17th Street, Fifth Close, the Asene Street, the 16th Street, the 29th Avenue and Shegelege Avenue, all in New Achimota.

He explained how thieves went about terrorising the unsuspecting residents to the extent of snatching people’s bags which called for him to erect an electricity pole at Petroleum where the criminals often operated.

Ongoing projects

Touching on ongoing projects, Mr Wiafe spoke about the rehabilitation of the golden street in the area with the construction of a drainage system being undertaken by Gazelle Construction to ease vehicular movement and also to reduce perennial flooding that often hits the area during the rainy season.

He told the Daily Graphic that the Member of Parliament for Trobu, Mr Moses Anim, was facilitating the construction of a police post within the electoral area to ensure the safety and security of residents.

Future programmes

Concerning the score of some programmes and projects yet to commence in the area, Mr Wiafe mentioned the distribution of refuse bins to churches and mosques, schools, market, taxi ranks and other public facilities to help keep the surroundings clean.

He mentioned the reconstruction of the Kingsby-Maple Leaf Hotel road as well as the resealing of the Obodoi Street which links the ABC junction, and dredging of the Fishpond stream to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, coupled with flood related incidences.
