Obuasi West PPP launches campaign

Obuasi West PPP launches campaign

The Obuasi West Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Ms Afua Ansaa Asiedu, has launched her campaign in the run-up to the November election with proposals to help revamp Obuasi as a mine city and develop its adjoining communities.

At a news conference in Obuasi, the PC noted that the Obuasi area had been developed over the years by AngloGold Ashanti but attempts to achieve a befitting status had failed, especially in the area of job creation.

She said job creation happened to be the hallmark of the Presidential Candidate of the PPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, and added that a number of firms, factories and institutions he had established were testimony of his capability to develop Ghana as President.

She said when given the mandate as Member of Parliament, she would lobby  for ventures that would help create jobs for a considerable number of youth in the Obuasi area, particularly in the constituency, adding that “I am the best candidate who brings hope, development and prosperity".

Education

Ms Asiedu, who has been the Manageress of the Coconut Grove Hotel, Obuasi for the past eight years and has a bachelor's degree in Human Resources and Management, said it had been her dream to put  the training and skills she had acquired at the disposal of society.

She said she was contesting for the seat in order to bring back development to the area, as her stay in the area over the years had revealed to her the development challenges of the constituency.

She added that she had the intention to lobby to establish at least one tertiary institution in the Obuasi Municipality to afford students from the second cycle schools the opportunity to acquire higher education.

Women empowerment

Ms Asiedu said identifiable women groups in the constituency would be given the needed support to acquire the necessary skills to create jobs for themselves and for their families.

She added that she would help facilitate soft loans for market women to boost their trade.
