Maulvi Adam, he said, could also be fondly remembered for his interest in the peace, development and consolidation of democracy in Ghana that culminated in his consistent and active participation in fora and programmes that offered platforms for the education of the citizenry on issues of multi-party system of governance.
‘’No wonder he won the admiration and respect of Professor J.E. Mills while he was President and leader of the NDC, and subsequently appointed him as a member of the Ghana Peace Council,” Mr Asiedu Nketia stated.
Prez Kufuor
Former President Kufuor expressed shock and sorrow at the passing of Maulvi Adam last Sunday.
“The Ameer was a friend and a man with a great sense for fair play. He did not only preach peace, he practised it and sought to bring balance in all that he did and won the respect of all who came into contact with him,” President Kufuor stated.
A statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said it was those qualities that made the former President to appoint him to serve on the National Reconciliation Commission and later on the National Peace Council.
“In both instances, he discharged his duties creditably and admirably. No wonder he was made Companion of the Order of the Volta, one of the highest civil awards of honour in our country,” he said.
The statement said his passing was a great loss not only to the Ahmadi Mission in Ghana but also the worldwide movement of which he was held in great esteem.
“Ghana has lost a religious leader of great eminence. May Allah grant him peaceful rest,” the message concluded. - GNA
