Mammoth rally climaxes NPP manifesto launch

Thousands of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday invaded the precincts of the Trade Fair Centre in Accra for a mammoth rally that climaxed the party’s 2016 manifesto launch.

The supporters, dressed in party colours, took over the entire centre and the main dual carriageways that link Nungua and the Burma Camp.

Even before the rally commenced around 4 p.m., the thick crowd had gathered in front of the Trade fair Centre waiting for the party's executives who were then locked up in the Pavilion S section of the centre outlining the major highlights of the manifesto.

Immediately the supporters saw the flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former President John Agyekum Kufuor in their convoy to the rally ground, they all began chanting: "Change is coming".

Before the two mounted the stage, many speakers had addressed the crowd.

Among them were the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; the acting NPP Chairman, Mr Freddie Blay, and the acting General Secretary, Mr John Boadu.

Don't extend your suffering

Addressing the supporters, former President Kufuor called on Ghanaians to end President John Mahama's term in the December 7 polls, else they risked extending their own miseries.

He said the last eight years under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had brought indescribable suffering to Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

Touching on the manifesto, the former President said the policies outlined by the party would resurrect Ghana's dead economy.

He said the major reason that made his eight-year rule successful was because he had a strong team that assisted him to implement all his policies.

"This is the same team that Nana Akufo-Addo is bringing should Ghanaians vote for him," he added.

I won't disappoint

Nana Akufo-Addo said every policy outlined in the party's 2016 manifesto would be implemented because "I believe this is what Ghana needs to boost our economy".

A new economy

Dr Bawumia said the NPP, if elected, would create a new economy in which Ghanaian businesses would be given the needed economic policies to thrive.

"We know what Ghanaians need and we have it fully prepared," he added.

For his part, the acting National Chairman of the party urged the voting population to "guard their votes" on election day.

"Don't leave it to anyone," he added.
