Mahama challenges government's job creation claims, pushes for 24-hour economy

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has said the government's claim of creating jobs was not true and said there has been an increase in unemployment.

Speaking at a stopover during his campaign tour at Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Mr Mahama questioned the government's assertion that more than two million jobs have been created.

"We cannot be deceived by the unemployment rate," Mr Mahama said.

"Under the NDC administration, it was 8.4%, but it has since risen. Despite the president and vice president claiming to have created over two million jobs, I ask: where are these jobs, and how many have reached the residents?"

Mr Mahama expressed concern that such claims are "mere rhetoric" designed to win votes ahead of the upcoming general election.solution to the country's rising unemployment and underemployment challenges.
