Kempes wins trust of TMA members
The 42 assembly members of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) have signed a memorandum to the President, John Dramani Mahama, requesting that he speed up the appointment of a chief executive to avoid further delay and anxiety among the assembly members.
The letter, which favoured the sitting Chief Executive, Mr Kempes Ofosuware, appealed to the President to give him the opportunity to continue with the projects he had lined up for the metropolis.
They said, “ we would appreciate it if Mr Ofosuware is appointed again for his hard work otherwise we would reject any new appointment made”.
The letter stated that any new appointment made would mean that the person was being imposed on the Tema Assembly as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

This decision was arrived at after a crisis meeting by the assembly members, who were of the view that assembly business was being dragged backwards.
According to a letter addressed to the President and signed by the Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Romeo Elikplim Akahoho, members of the General Assembly of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly had resolved to throw their weight behind the Chief Executive, Mr Ofosuware, based on his hard work and dedication to the Better Ghana Agenda.
The assembly members were of the view that continuous delay in appointing an MCE for Tema was retarding development in the metropolis.
The letter explained that the support of the assembly members was based on several factors which they deemed useful in taking a decision on the selection of a Mayor for Tema.
The assembly members said Mr Ofosuware had brought unity and the spirit of teamwork to the business of the assembly, devoid of partisanship and rancour as could be found in other jurisdictions.
The letter said the grass roots could readily point to the massive improvement in the road sector and the provision of other amenities throughout the metropolis.
It said, “we have never experienced and felt involved in local governance as within the period of Mr Ofosuware.”
“Our mayor has adopted an all-inclusive approach to governance and this is largely appreciated and applauded by all of us,” the letter noted.
They pleaded that Mr Ofosuware be given the nod to continue with his good work that, according to them, was ‘gradually but steadily’ transforming Tema.
Meanwhile, rumours making rounds indicate that a new person would be appointed to replace Mr Ofosuware.
This infuriated the assembly members, who want the President to rather consider the hard work of Mr Ofosuware and his good attitude towards the people of the metropolis.
