Groupe Nduom to boost KEEAs revenue
The founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has underscored the need for anyone interested in being elected into public office to first taste life as an assembly member.
This is because a Member of Parliament, district /municipal / metropolitan chief executive, minister of state or president ought to understand governance at the local level to help them come to terms with development challenges at the local level.
Dr Nduom made the suggestion when he addressed Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly (KEEA) on Thursday, on what the Groupe Nduom companies were doing to create jobs and support development within KEEA and its environs.
He said the municipality was facing many problems, including poor sanitation caused by the bad attitude and habits of our citizens and the inability of our municipal assembly to enforce sanitation and environmental protection byelaws.
He said, for example, vehicles and equipment of the municipality were lying idle or brokendown and the assembly lacked the funds and technical capacity to put them back to use.
Dr Nduom announced that Groupe Nduom was providing the KEEA with GH¢20,000.00 to support the assembly’s efforts to clean the municipality.
He also explained that the international company, Groupe Nduom, had decided to use the municipality to demonstrate how to develop the economy.
In line with this objective, he indicated his resolve to partner the KEEA to create jobs in the rural areas.
Creating active economy
“This is not a promise. We are actively creating an active economy within the Ghanaian economy in KEEA,’’ Dr Nduom declared.
He, therefore, urged the assembly to present the company with a plan on how it was going to use the money and what specific results would be achieved.
He also said the company expected the KEEA to render accounts on how the money was spent and the results obtained.
Dr Nduom disclosed that Groupe Nduom had adopted the Liverpool Street, the road from the Castle to Essaman Junction and the road in front of his father's house in Teterkessim to clean them and ensure that sanitation was not compromised.
He said the company was also donating GH¢10,000 to help the assembly acquire land for a new cemetery in Elmina.
Job plans
Revealing his job plan for KEEA, the president of Groupe Nduom disclosed that a shopping mall, machine shop, university and television station were among the list of new companies that he would establish in the municipality.
He added that such an enterprise would ensure jobs for the youth as well as prevent the influx of energetic youth from the area to the Western and Greater Accra regional capitals in search of non-existent jobs.
To this end, Dr Nduom pleaded with the KEEA to make land available to enable him to commence the projects.
Aside Ghana, Dr Nduom already has companies in Liberia and the United States of America.
