Graphic Communications MD urges youth to lead change, calls for tolerance ahead of elections

With just ten days to Ghana's December 7 general elections, the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd. (GCGL), Ato Afful has issued a rallying call for the youth to reimagine Ghana’s future and for political actors to prioritise the nation’s interests over partisan considerations.

Speaking at the fourth edition of the Graphic National Development Series (GNDS) today in Accra, Mr. Afful highlighted the pivotal role of young people in shaping Ghana's destiny.

“You, more than anyone, have the ability to reimagine Ghana, to make this place what we want it to be—live, work, and thrive in. But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path,” he said. Emphasising the importance of participating in the democratic process, he added, “It’s 10 days to December 7; go out and vote. Remember, in God we trust; all others we verify.”

Mr. Afful also underscored the responsibilities of political actors, calling for tolerance, respect, and the prioritisation of Ghana’s interests.

“Our political actors, Mr. Chairman, must maintain their power through consent, not coercion. You must respect the rights of each other and every voter and participate with the spirit of tolerance and compromise. You must place the interest of our people Ghana and the legitimate workings of the political process above your party,” he stated.

The GNDS, a platform created by GCGL to inspire national dialogue, provided a stage for key stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission, political parties, and civil society, to outline measures for peaceful and transparent elections.

Mr. Afful’s speech resonated with the event’s overarching theme, "Sustaining Civic & Democratic Governance System for Development: Mandate of All Citizens", emphasising the collective responsibility of citizens to ensure credible elections.

As the nation prepares to head to the polls, the call for responsible leadership and active civic participation remains critical to the sustenance of Ghana's democracy.
