E-database to address weaknesses of CPP - Samia Nkrumah

The Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ms Samia Nkrumah, has said the national electronic database instituted by the party is to help address one of the party’s main weaknesses. It is to address the inability of committed, loyal members to understand the party’s mission and ideologies, she told the Daily Graphic.

She, therefore, urged executive members and party faithful from the national, regional and constituency levels to register to make the exercise successful.

According to her, for the leadership of the party to address this problem, it needed to assess the quality and strength of the membership, hence the need for the registration.

Ms Nkrumah made these observations in an interview at the party’s Headquarters in Accra.

 

The electronic database is an initiative which was embraced and put in place by regional executives of the party, as well as the National Executive Council (NEC) body on April 5, this year, at the party’s NEC meeting in Tamale. 

The essence of the database is to enhance the internal communication of the party, serve as a medium for assessing the quality and strength of the membership and also serve as a channel for which members can pay their dues towards the betterment of the party.

 

Ms Nkrumah said the exercise, which was being piloted by a research and strategy committee, an organisation committee, and a database committee, was to ensure that members could make informed decisions and represent better what the party stood for.

“We believe that for the party to be revived, rejuvenated or renewed, we need members who would be prepared to work for and with the party; not a few individuals who can control the party,” she observed.

The chairperson indicated that the process would go a long way for the party to attract young members who would be future ambassadors of the party.

She said the exercise would enable the party to determine how many nurses, teachers or students were registered with the CPP.  

“This initiative is long overdue especially for a small party that is trying to revive itself. It will go a long way to making sure that the most committed are those who are registered,” she said.

 

Speaking on the progress of the registrations process, she indicated that the exercise, having already begun in many of the regional constituencies, was expected to end in three months.

“We want to finish the process before we start any internal elections. We want a situation where when we get to our next congress to elect our national executives and then a few months later our flag bearer for 2016, all those who are voting will be on the database so that one can easily assess the quality and whether or not members are legible to vote.” 

“Many of the regions have started because obviously capabilities vary from one constituency to another. Many of the party members like myself registered months ago.

Some constituencies have already started and there is no particular formula to the process,” she explained.
