Absence of DCE for Ahafo Ano South affecting development

The people of Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti Region are likely to have their wounds deepened in terms of development in the district capital of Mankranso and its adjoining communities following the removal of the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei.

Mr Yaw Adusei has been acting as the Ahafo Ano South District Chief Executive (DCE) ever since the DCE, Mr Gabriel Barimah, popularly known as “Tweaa DCE”, was sacked by the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, for public misconduct.

Mr Yaw Adusei’s removal comes as a result of recent ministerial reshuffle by President Mahama and in accordance with Article 79 (1) of the 1992 Constitution. Mr John Alexander Ackon, a former Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive and immediate past Deputy Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, has been nominated as the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister.

Absence of DCE affecting development

As one of the biggest districts with two different constituencies –Ahafo Ano South-West and Ahafo Ano South-East – in the region, the assembly needs a functional DCE who will spearhead the development of the area.

A predominantly farming area, much is expected in terms of agriculture improvement, youth development, and improved water as well as quality education.

With a DCE in place, there is a greater opportunity for the initiation of contracts for development projects, monitoring and assistance.

Call for new DCE

While a few people in the Ahafo Ano South District want the reinstatement of the “Tweaa DCE”, many others are calling on President Mahama, to, as a matter of urgency, appoint a new DCE.

So far, nine people have made it public that they wanto to fill the vacant position but President Mahama is yet to make an appointment. 

They are Bright Osei, Julius Baani, James Adjei, Francis Oppong, Nelson Ibrahim Ayamba, Gariba Zibrilla, Nana Antwi, Thomas Kwakwa and Nuhu Alhassan Dicko.
