WAEC releases 2024 WASSCE results for private candidates, withholds some over malpractices
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for private candidates, while withholding the results of some candidates over suspected malpractices.
A total of 38,727 candidates—comprising 17,596 males and 21,131 females—registered for the second series of the examination. However, a statement issued by WAEC in Accra on Friday, March 1, 2025, revealed that the results of 303 candidates have been withheld for specific subjects, while 108 candidates have had their entire results withheld, pending investigations into suspected irregularities.
According to WAEC, certain malpractices were identified during both the examination and the marking process, prompting the Council to take action. The affected results will remain withheld until investigations are concluded.
The examination body has also cautioned candidates and the general public to be vigilant against fraudsters who may claim they can alter or upgrade results for a fee, often payable through mobile money.

"Candidates are to note that WAEC’s results database is well secured, and all results can be authenticated," the statement stressed.
WAEC further advised institutions and organisations to verify results directly from its official website (www.waecgh.org) or through its confirmation/verification service.
WAEC commended all stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination and the successful release of results.
Despite the large number of registered candidates, 1,354 candidates failed to sit for the examination.
Candidates can now check their results online via the WAEC website: www.waecgh.org.
