Use science and technology to transform economy – Mahama
The President, Mr John Dramani Mahama has stated that government would accelerate efforts at making Science and Technology a major tool in development.
He said there was a direct relationship between science, technology and development, and his government would not deviate from that as it works to advance national development.
He said science and technology had the capacity to accelerate the transition from the lower Middle income nation to middle income level.
President Mahama said this when Dr Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, the Executive Director of Commission on Science and Technology for sustainable Development in the South(COMSATS ) led a delegation to call on him at the Flagstaff House Tuesday.

President Mahama said once Ghana is an agrarian country and rely on rains for its agriculture, making science and technology the central focus for agriculture development was important.
He said Ghana has the comparative advantage to increase production and export to neighboring countries.
CSIR involvement
Mr Mahama expressed satisfaction that the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research had been part of the proceedings of COMSATS.
He expressed the hope that their involvement would help in government's development agenda.
President Mahama said developing nations needed to do more to take advantage e of the benefits of Science and Technology.
COMSATS boss
The Executive Director was at the seat of government to brief President Mahama on their performance and outline some of their programmes for the year.
COMSATS brings together Science and Technology related groups. It was started in 1994 and has its headquarters in Islamabad, Pakistan.
It participates in the bilateral technical cooperation projects with internationally renowned Science and Technology Centres of Excellence and it also participates in technology transfer programmes and undertakes collaborative research programmes in partnership with development agencies.
Dr Quereshi commended the government for the invitation extended to him to come and share ideas with Ghanaians on science and technology.
He said COMSATS had established a university with a total of 25,000 students across the world.
