Teacher duped in attempt to double money
A self-acclaimed spiritualist has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for absconding with money belonging to a teacher under the pretext of doubling the money.
Solomon Nyarko was arrested by the Amasaman Police and presented to the District Circuit Court at Amasaman.
Nyarko was charged on two counts of conspiracy to defraud by false pretence and defrauding.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo, presenting the facts, said the complainant, Nana Yaw Boateng, was a teacher at Mankessim.
C/Inspector Dosoo told the court, presided over by Mrs Ruby Aryeetey, that on April 17, 2014, Nyarko introduced himself to Boateng as a powerful priest who could help him to become rich.
According to the prosecution, Boateng became convinced and booked an appointment with Nyarko at Agya Herbal near Pokuase and was ushered into an uncompleted building by Abubakari (at large), Secretary to Nyarko, to meet Nyarko.
He said at the meeting, Boateng told Nyarko that he needed spiritual help to get rich and paid GH₵2,000 as consultation fee demanded by Nyarko.
Mr Dosoo said after the payment, Nyarko collected various sums of money from Boateng amounting to GH₵35,000 under the pretext of doubling the money for Boateng.
He said GH₵25,000 out of the GH₵35,000 was paid to Abubakari to be given to Nyarko.
Boateng, after parting with the money, however, realised that his financial position was rather deteriorating.
On April 30, 2014, Boateng reported the case to the Pokuase Police and Nyarko was eventually arrested on September 11, 2015.
