Strive to live at peace with one another — Nana Akufo-Addo

The President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called on Ghanaians, regardless of their political or religious persuasions, to strive to live in peace with one another.

He said the quest for sustainable growth and development could be achieved when all Ghanaians saw themselves as one people with a common destiny.

Nana Akufo-Addo made the call when he and his vice, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the Abossey Okai Central Mosque to give praise and thanks to Allah for their victory at the December 7 polls.

He said although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and, for that matter, his administration, had a lot to do to prosecute the national development agenda, much depended on the unity and focus of the nation.

God has answered Ghanaians

God, he said, had seen the suffering of the people of Ghana and had brought about the change needed for progress and prosperity.

Contrary to opinions that others might have, Nana Akufo-Addo said the one district one factory policy, which he promised during the electioneering towards the December 7 election, held the key to dealing with the high levels of unemployment.

He said detailed research had gone into the development of that policy and expressed the hope that in due course, the doubting Thomases would see results from the implementation of that policy.

Nana Akufo-Addo also gave an assurance that this time around, the approach that his administration would employ in the allocation of national resources would ensure that the resources reached the lowest places within a decentralised system.

Productive policies

"The one million dollars per constituency policy will ensure that the development needs of the local people are dealt with at that level,” the President-elect said.

The Free Senior High School policy, he said, would bring much relief to parents so that they could channel the money into other productive activities.

For his part, Dr Bawumia also echoed the need for peaceful co-existence among all Ghanaians, saying the economic programmes that the NPP was bringing would help in positioning the country on the path of progress and prosperity.

Zongo development

Touching on the Zongo Development Fund, he said there was great business potential in the Zongo communities, but that had not been adequately harnessed for rapid growth and development.

The fund, he explained, would augment efforts to inject life into business activities in the Zongo communities for speedy economic development.

Chief Imam

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, underscored the need for Ghanaians to give the needed support to every government that came to power in order for the people to enjoy the fullest benefits of what the government had to offer.

He also reminded Ghanaians of the fact that Ghana was the only country they had and for that reason, any action they took should be in the best interest of the country.
