Sonitra to do remedial works on Atibie-Nkawkaw road
Sonitra, a road construction company, has been contracted to carry out emergency remedial works on the Atibie-Nkawkaw road in the Kwahu area.
The company is already working on the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw by-pass.
The poor nature of the Atibie-Nkawkaw road has been a source of worry to many motorists who move in and out of the mountainous area.
As part of a two-day working visit to the Afram Plains, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, inspected the road, which is expected to carry more traffic before, during and after the Easter celebrations in April.
A deputy chief executive officer at the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Alhaji Baba Kassim, said the emergency works were meant to ensure the safety of travellers, who are expected to increase in April.
According to Alhaji Kassim, the GHA has already awarded the contract to Sonitra to carry out a major reconstruction of the nine-kilometre Atibie-Nkawkaw road, but the contractor was awaiting the commencement letter from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP).
The District Chief Exective of Kwahu South, Mr Joseph Omari, advised motorists to be cautious when using the road.
He also cautioned drivers to avoid speeding after the road had been rehabilitated so that the good road would not become a death trap.
