Farmers Day
The 2017 National Farmers Day celebration, the 33rd edition, is scheduled for Friday, December 1, 2017 in Kumasi.
The celebration will begin with a launch of regional days celebration on November 22, 2017.
The overall best farmer would be honoured at the main Farmers Day event on Friday, December 1, 2017.
The day is commemorated to honour farmers and fishers folks who provide food for the nation, raw materials for industries and also earn foreign exchange for the country.
Receiving the items and the money on behalf of the ministry, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mr Francis Kingsley Ato Codjoe, expressed the government’s appreciation to the donors for their annual support to farmers.
He pledged that the outboard motors and generators would be given to deserving fishermen “so that they can also provide us with fish. Ghana is one of the countries which consumes fish a lot and, therefore, we will give the items to encourage them to do more,” he added.
Mr Codjoe appealed to other corporate bodies, individuals and organisations to extend support to the farmers to enable them to do their best.
“As a result of your support, we have been able to improve significantly the awards given to fishermen. Your donations have enhanced their work, improved their livelihoods and further strengthened our mutual relations,” he said.
Mr Codjoe called on all exhibiters to register their products for exhibition during the week-long celebration to showcase their products to the world of market.
Touching on the ministry’s development project for 2018, the deputy minister announced that landing sites would be built at four beaches: Manford, Jamestown, Axim and another yet to be selected.
He said the ministry would also train the youth in aquaculture to enable them to develop fishing skills.
