Presidency cautions against misuse of security vehicles in traffic
Government has asked drivers of vehicles
belonging to security agencies to desist from jumping normal traffic
regulations except and unless during cases of emergency.
A
statement signed by Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama
Ayariga on Sunday, said the caution also applies to private security
companies as well as private vehicle owners who drive through traffic
with sirens and horns blurring.
The presidency, according to the
statement, was concerned about the “manner in which vehicles belonging
to the various security agencies drive through traffic during periods of
congestion, especially in the capital city, Accra”.
“The police
administration has accordingly been directed to arrest and apply strict
sanctions against offending drivers of these vehicles and their
occupants,” it added.
The statement also cautioned security
dispatch riders against escorting unauthorized persons through traffic
as it has been the practicse and asked “service chiefs to bring these
directives to the attention of their personnel and ensure compliance”.
