Policy implementation failings bane of Ghana’s underdevelopment - Krachiwura

THE Krachiwura of the Krachi Traditional Area, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, has attributed Ghana’s underdevelopment partly to the inability of state actors to implement policies.

He said Ghana had a lot of good policies that could put the country onto a higher pedestal but those who were supposed to implement them at the grass-roots level were the ones who normally let the policy makers down.

Nana Besemuna III said this when the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, paid a courtesy call at his palace in Kete Krachi in the Volta Region.

The minister was on a working tour of the northern part of the Volta Region to assess the impact of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the Hohoe Municipality, Kete Krachi and the Krachi Nchumuru districts.

“Ghana does not have a problem with policies but “most often the policies do not get to where they are supposed to go”, he said.

Beautiful policies

The Krachiwura said the country was blessed with good policies and programmes, which, when implemented well, would help in the total development of the country.

However, he said the problem was with the implementors of the ‘beautiful’ policies as they did not follow the implementation process to the letter.

He commended Nana Oye for the visit to the district to ensure that the implementation of the LEAP programme was on course.

Other chiefs

At similar functions at the Gbi Traditional Council in Hohoe, at Dambai and Krachi Nchumuru, the traditional leaders commended the minister for her dedication to work.

Nana Oye, in addressing the various traditional leaders, assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the aged, vulnerable, persons with disabilities and orphans in society were empowered.

She said the LEAP programme was using scientific means to verify beneficiaries and, therefore, all those who were genuinely qualified would be covered.

Nana Oye at the end of her interactions with the various leaders presented them with assorted gifts items.
