Ofosu Ampofo
Just before the elections, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who is the former National Organiser of the party and the National Executive Committee representative responsible for the vetting and elections in the Ashanti Region, asked the delegates to vote for people who were dedicated, responsible, hard-working, committed and ready to go the extra mile for the progress of the party.
He explained that no government could function properly and deliver on its promise without a formidable party, and urged the delegates to ensure that in all their decisions, the party’s interest would reign supreme.
The Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, urged the aspirants and their supporters to approach the elections as a purely internal affair and close their ranks irrespective of who would be elected.
The youth organisers were sworn in by the National Youth Organiser, Mr Ludwig Hlodze.
Temporary hold-up
Immediately after the list of delegates had been exhausted, the EC official announced that any delegate whose name had not been mentioned should step forward. The incumbent Youth Organiser, Mr Kweku Boahen, and some people approached the EC officials.
Not satisfied with the presence of Mr Boahen among the group, some supporters of Genfi also moved to where the EC officials were.
However, verbal exchanges turned into fisticuffs but the timely intervention of the police prevented the situation from escalating.
