MCE inspects Kotokuraba Market project

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Ms  Priscilla Arhin, has expressed satisfaction about the progress of work  at the Cape Coast stadium and  the Kotokuraba Market.

Ms Arhin made this known after she visited the  two sites  and other project sites with a team of officials last Friday.

She noted that the purpose of the visit was to enable her to know the progress of work in order to give proper account of it to the people of Cape Coast.

She first visited the much-awaited Kotokuraba Market where she was briefed  by the site engineer.

She said she was hopeful that the market would be completed on time to make way for the re-construction of the old market.

She said  those in the old market would be relocated  to the new market when its completion, in order for the contractor to start work on the permanent market.

Ms Arhin and her team were  also taken to the site  which the assembly  had acquired near Radio Central to be used as a separate market for those who would not get  a place in the Kotokuraba Market.

She said the surplus material that would be left at the Kotokuraba Market would be used for the construction of additional market spaces to augment the 866 spaces in the temporary Kotokuraba Market.

Some of the media men who were on board raised questions on  the security implications that the market would have on  Radio Central due to its closeness to the market.

Ms Arhin assured them that the assembly had taken into consideration the security issues and that the market would not pose any threat to the station, adding that it would be fenced.

She also visited the Mensah Sarbah Basic School which the assembly had renovated for use after having been abandoned for several years.

After inspecting the three water storage tanks, the assembly had purchased  for Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) College of Education, she was led by Mr Mawutor Kofi Keketsyor, the Central Regional Director of the Department of Urban Roads to inspect the extent of work done on the road that links OLA to Adisadel Estate.

She also inspected  the roads under construction within the Abura town.

She ended the tour at the Cape Coast stadium where she expressed satisfaction with work done.

However, Ms Arhin was worried about the working condition of the staff there and assured them that the assembly would see to it that their welfare was well catered for.
