The victim, identified as David Amedzro, was said to have climbed the crane to fix a part which had developed a fault.
The upper part of Amedzro, a resident of Gbawe, was severed from the lower part, exposing his intestines.
His colleague on the crane who was then operating the machine rushed out of the crane to avoid being hit as well.
The incident, apart from attracting a large crowd of onlookers, also brought work on the construction site to a halt.
One of the workers, Samuel Darko, told the Daily Graphic that the incident happened so fast that the workers could not help but look on in awe.
According to him, although they saw the crane shaking immediately Amedzro climbed it, they never anticipated that it could collapse.
