Ramseyer Cooperative Credit Union opens Ashtown branch to mark silver jubilee
The Ramseyer Cooperative Credit Union (RCCU) officially opened its branch at Ashtown, near the Kejetia Market to provide services to its customers within that catchment area.
The opening of the new branch formed part of activities marking the silver jubilee celebration of the credit union.
This brings to six, the number of branches of RCCU since it was established in 2000. The RCCU also operates a virtual branch.
Humble beginning
At the opening ceremony of the new branch, which was also used to launch the 25th anniversary of the credit union, the Chief Executive Officer of RCCU, Kennedy Yeboah, said RCCU started mainly as a welfare scheme for members of the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church at Adum.

He said it started with just 16 members and currently boasts of more than 5000 shareholders and a customer base of over 14,000 clients.
From its humble beginning in a kiosk at the Adum Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, RCCU now has six physical branches including its magnificent headquarters located at Dadiesoba near Asafo in Kumasi and a virtual office.
The other branches are Asafo Market, Ejisu, Adum, Sokoban and Dadiesoaba, where the head office is located.
For the past 25 years, Mr Yeboah said RCCU had served the financial needs of its customers which include mainly petty traders and owners of businesses.
Aside from the launch, he said the credit union had a lined up of activities which would be undertaken every month till the climax in June.
Some of the activities lined up include financial literacy education, corporate social responsibility activities, among others.
Loyalty
Mr Yeboah attributed the success of RCCU to the loyalty of its members “Who have stayed true to the organisation throughout these years”.
He said the silver jubilee celebration was the perfect occasion for the credit union to appreciate the efforts of the shareholders who were the actual owners of the business for their unwavering support over the past two and a half decades.
Board support
Mr Yeboah also recognised the support of the members of the board in his two decades of dedicated service to the credit union as CEO.
He said their support, coupled with that of the staff, had made it possible for him to manage the credit union.
Future
He said plans were far advanced to fully digitalise the operations of the bank and make it possible for its customers to access services from the comfort of their homes.
He said the future of the credit union looked very bright as it prepared to expand and grow its membership and continue to provide tailored services to meet the needs of its growing clientele.
According to him, RCCU was not made up of just members of the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church at Adum but opened to all, including those in the formal sector.
