LOCK DOWN:There is no need to stock food– Agric Minister
The Minister for Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto says there is enough food for Ghanaians during and after the lock down period.
He has therefore advised the public against panic-buying during the lock down.
President Akufo- Addo last Friday night (March 27, 2020) announced a two-week partial lock down of GT Accra region and Kumasi to help curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This led to a gridlock, panic buying, price hikes and total sell-out were the order of the day the last 48 hours to the lock down when hundreds of Ghanaians went out to buy foodstuffs and essentials to stock up in anticipation of a lockdown as efforts are enhanced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
At a press conference by the Ministry on Monday, Dr Akoto said, “Don’t waste your money on unnecessary stock of food because the food will always be there. There is no need to stock up…Prices which has spiked over the weekend I can assure you by Monday is going to come down,”.
