GRA Ladies Club celebrates Women's Day
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Ladies Club celebrated International Women's Day in Accra on Monday, March 10, with an event focused on empowering women to reach their full potential.
The event featured women leaders in senior management positions sharing their experiences to inspire and motivate participants to develop their skills and capacities.
It was attended by members of the ladies' clubs from sister security agencies, GRA staff, and officers from security agencies.
The event on the theme, "Accelerate Action", aligned with the global theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress", which emphasises the importance of supporting women's advancement and equality.¹

Progress made
In a speech read on her behalf, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the theme was a call for urgency and an opportunity to deepen actions to unlock equity, rights and opportunities for all.
She said it was time to draw attention to the need to address systemic barriers that entrench inequalities and redefine power structures through inclusive access to education, employment, leadership and decision-making spaces.
Dr Lartey indicated that the country had made commendable strides in promoting gender equality and equity and protecting the rights of women and girls.
Some of which, she mentioned, were the development of initiatives and legislative and policy frameworks to address gender inequality in the country.
“They include the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024, the Domestic Violence Act, the Human Trafficking Act, the National Gender Policy and the Child and Family Welfare Policy, among others,” she said.
She called for an all-inclusive environment that would help promote diversity, investment and effective collaboration for women and girls in Ghana.
Celebrate women
The Acting Commissioner-General of GRA, Anthony Akwasi Sarpong, said it was critical to celebrate women and the remarkable contributions of women to the GRA.
He explained that the work of the authority was not just about collecting taxes but about building a prosperous country where every citizen could thrive.
Mr Sarpong said the theme for the celebration was a reminder that gender equality was not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity.
GRA Ladies Club
The President of the GRA Ladies Club, Neormah Nyoon Brew, said the continued marginalisation and stifling of the potential of women through gender disparity was unacceptable and called on everyone to embrace affirmative action.
Mrs Brew, however, expressed her excitement that the Anti-witchcraft bill, which was aimed at criminalising witchcraft and protecting vulnerable elderly women, had been reintroduced into Parliament.
She said the Bill passed by Parliament in July 2023, was never signed into law by the previous government, citing Constitutional concerns.
