ECG inaugurates office complex at Somanya
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has inaugurated a new office block worth GH¢ 1.6 million at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region
At the ceremony, Rev. William Hutton-Mensah, Managing Director, ECG, said the project was aimed at enhancing the corporate visibility of ECG and also enhance the company’s capacity to bring service to the doorsteps of its customers.
Improved distribution network.
Rev Hutton-Mensah said ECG’s Krobo District was strategically located to serve seven political districts namely, Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo, parts of Asuogyaman, North Tongu, Ho West, Shai Osudoku and Akwapim North, adding that given the wide geographical spread of the ECG had embarked on a number of projects to improve the distribution network.
He said ECG recently completed three major projects involving injection of five units of 100 kVA transformers and Low voltage system improvements at Ogome and Abokobi in Yilo Krobo, Manekpo in Manya Krobo and extension of electricity supply to Akrade New Town in the Asuogyaman districts respectively.
Rev Hutton-Mensah said currently, seven similar projects are ongoing at Akuse township, Adjikpo, Mount Mary Training College and other locations in the area.
Upgrading
He announced that ECG was carrying out a major rehabilitation of the Juapong Primary substation which involves upgrading the existing power transformer from 5MVA to 2x10MVA while the Kpong Bulk Supply Point and Asutsuare Primary Substation are both undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation.
“When completed, these projects will result in supply reliability, operating flexibility, reduction in system losses, improvement in the quality of supply and increased capacity to meet new and future energy demand,” he said.
He said ECG shares in the frustration of its customers, stressing that the incidence of the load-shedding was weighing heavily against ECG from all sides. He said notwithstanding these challenging conditions, ECG was committed to do all within its power to improve its services to the nation.
Customer Service
Rev Hutton-Mensah urged the staff of ECG to place premium on customer care and endeavour to communicate exercises leading to power outages. While appealing to clients to pay their bills fully and promptly, Rev. Hutton-Mensah also called on the general public to report any suspected cases of energy theft and other illegal activities to ECG for the necessary action.
The Tema Regional Manager of ECG, Engineer Jones Ofori Addo, expressed the hope that the new edifice will create a good ambiance and greater comfort towards meeting the expectations of clients. He urged them not to hesitate in reporting their grievances to the office.
The Krobo District Manager of ECG, Mr Prosper Avadetsi, pledged total commitment of ensuring that ECG’s values of professionalism, openness, wellbeing, excellence and reliability are exhibited in their new premises to the admiration of all.
Mr Andrews Sodah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, called for greater partnership between ECG and the assembly. He also appealed to ECG to embark on periodic public education to communicate the challenges that inhibit regular power supply.
