Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa residents undergo free health screening

About 1,000 residents within the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District have benefited from a free health-screening exercise organised and funded by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, at a cost of approximately GH¢20, 000.

It was patronised by the aged in particular who were taken through dental, eye care and general medical examinations.

They were given appropriate medication after diagnosis.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mrs Nkrumah Aboah said the exercise was to fulfil a campaign promise she made to the people before becoming an MP.

She said the exercise had the objective of ensuring the good health of the constituents,  as well as educate them on the need to report early to hospital whenever they were sick or suspected any health condition.

According to her, many people only visited hospitals and other health institutions  when their sickness was at an advanced stage. The medical check-ups, she said,  were essential to keep one healthy.

She, therefore, called on the people to go for regular check-ups  for timely and proper health care.

Resourcing CHPS Compounds

She said the Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compounds situated at Nkwanta, Domeabra, Eduesia and Kawanopado were not operating because the facilities lacked medical equipment. She has, therefore, decided to work hard to secure equipment for the facilities.

She emphasised that when the health facilities were made functional, they would bring about improvement in the health of the people.

She disclosed that she had plans in place to register 500 elderly citizens of the area and 500 children onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them to have easy access to medical care.

Head of Medical team

The Coordinator of the National Medical Outreach Programme at the Ministry of Health, Dr Constance Addo-Yobo, commended the MP for initiating the exercise. She said it had helped many of the residents to be conscious of their health status.

She advised the residents not to wait till they experienced health complications before visiting the hospital. She urged them to make it a habit to go for medical check-ups regularly.
