Ashigbey calls for collaboration with Airtel

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, has called for collaboration between the company and mobile communications giants, Airtel Ghana, to facilitate transparency in the collation of election results in this year’s general election.

He said it was important for the two corporate communication companies to develop a mobile application that would provide a platform to send text and pictures from all the 29,000 polling stations across the country during the elections.

“Such an initiative will help to analyse the trend of the election results and bring citizens on board to ensure peace and unity, which is important for business to thrive,” he intimated.

Mr Ashigbey made the call yesterday when the Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Mrs Lucy Quist, led a six-member delegation from the company to pay a courtesy call on him.

Their discussions focused on how to use the power of technology and new media to foster a mutual business environment for the two companies.

“You came to the GCGL because you know that we have a wider audience. The audience are with us because they think we are credible. So, we need innovative collaboration to satisfy them,” Mr Ashigbey indicated.

 The STEM initiative

At the centre of the discussions was the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative that was aimed at changing the mindset of young people towards the study of those disciplines.

The STEM project embarked on by Mrs Quist, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Woman of the Year 2015, is to assist deprived schools have a positive attitude towards the study of these technology-driven subjects.

Mr Ashigbey lauded the achievements of Mrs Quist and indicated that Junior Graphic was also focused on impacting quality education on the younger generation and that a link with the STEM initiative would be a step in the right direction.

For her part, Mrs Quist said technology was at the centre of all human endeavours and for that matter, the decision to go digital by the GCGL was timely and proactive.

“This is the first time a newspaper is being uploaded digitally. It means that GCGL is thinking ahead of time, and this is good, to be able to control any business environment,” she said.

Mrs Quist said the collaboration between the two companies would ensure mutual benefits and that a team would be set up to explore other avenues for cooperation.
