The National Union of Yilo Krobo Youth Association (NUYYA), an association of indigenous Yilo Krobos across the country, has presented metal chairs worth GH¢12,000  to the Somanya Polyclinic in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

The presentation coincided with the annual congress of the association at Somanya.

NUYYA has branches in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Somanya, Akosombo and Ho.

 Support

The National President of NUYYA, Mr Peter Kutufoam, who made the presentation noted that the association was ready to support any institution that would contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.

He said since the formation of the association 27 years ago, NUYYA had assisted many institutions in the municipality in diverse ways and would continue to offer such support when necessary.

“The community centre and other development projects at Somanya are evidence of what the association has done for  the Yilo Krobo area over the years,” the president indicated.

Other projects include the drilling of a borehole for the Klo-Agogo Senior High School and organising of quiz competitions for junior high schools, aimed at raising the falling standard of education in the municipality.

He mentioned that Sra Presby Junior High School, Aboa-Besease M.A Junior High School and Oterkporlu Presbyterian Junior High School emerged winners in the competition for the year 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively. It had also organised clean-up campaigns and games at Somanya and adjoining communities.

 Concern

Mr Kutufoam, however, expressed concern about the lukewarm attitude by some citizens in the area who he noted, had refused to join the association to champion the development agenda of the area.

According to him, the main objective of the association was to help in fast tracking the growth of the area since the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly could not do it alone. “Majority of our people have been sitting on the fence for all these years” he said.

The president therefore, appealed to all Yilo Krobo citizens to join the association adding, “the community centre and other development projects at Somanya are evidence of what the association has done for the Yilo Krobo area”.

 Appreciation

The Physician Assistant in charge of the Somanya Polyclinic, Mr Mensah Bempa, who received the chairs on behalf of the management, expressed gratitude to the association for its intervention.
