Accra to host youth mentoring summit

The second in a series of a youth mentoring summit aimed at bringing out the potential in young women is to be organised in Accra.

The event, dubbed ‘Woman 2.1 Summit’ (21st Century Woman), will be held from October 18 to 19, 2013. It aims at bringing together some ambitious, forward thinking and successful women from Ghana and other countries to share ideas with young women on how they can exchange ideas and explore various opportunities to their benefit.

To be held on the theme;  “Unleash your potential”, the summit is aimed at bringing together over 25 successful business women to mentor younger ladies into becoming successful business women.

According to the Boston Consulting Group of the United States of America (USA), women-lead companies control 12 trillion of the 18 trillion businesses across the globe.

However, majority of women continue to be the world’s poorest as they are unable to unleash their potential to the fullest to earn more income.

Some of the speakers at the summit would include Ms Ellen Hagan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), L’AINE Services Limited; Ms Constance Swaniker CEO and Founder, Accents and Arts; Ms Sefa Gohono-Boateng, CEO, Songhai Africa Group; Ms Charlotte Gustavsson’s, CEO Viasat1 and Ms Eunice Leona Ogbugo, Founder and CEO of Eugo Terrana, among others.

At a media briefing in Accra to launch this year’s summit, Ms Anita Erskine, Founder, The Reverbgh Project and BrandWoman Africa, who would be the host of the Woman 2.1 Summit, said the time had come for the African woman to outdoor their potential to the benefit of all.

According to her, when the woman’s potential is tapped, it would work to the benefit of all in the country.

The founder and CEO of the Woman 2.1 Summit, Mr Benjamin Gregory Aggrey, said he was inspired to organise the summit because although women formed the majority of global population, they were the least resourced.

He said the summit would open the avenue for networking, mentoring and exhibition and also share ideas on innovations and new opportunities for the younger ones to make a difference in their communities and organisations.

The summit, he said, would focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, technology and self-development, saying that the core mission of the summit was to raise a new generation of women leaders to improve the country and inspire the next generation.
