SHS Gold Track: Some students to vacate on July 31
Students on the second-year Gold Track of Senior High Schools (SHS) that have recorded positive cases of COVID-19 will have their vacation delayed for assessment and observation before they can be released.
A joint-statement by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) said all Gold Track students at schools were no COVID-19 cases have been recorded are to return home on Friday, July 31, 2020.
However, students can only vacate from a school that has had a positive case, if no new positive cases have been reported within the last two weeks.
GUIDELINES
For the 2nd year Gold students due to return home, the following guidelines should apply:
1. Any school where no positive case of COVID-19 has been recorded, the students can vacaTe and go game.
2. Any school that had a positive case but has not reported any new positive case within the last two weeks, the students can vacate and go home.
3. Any school that had a positive case within the last two weeks, all contacts within the GOLD track will have their vacation delayed for assessment and observation before they can be allowed to go on vacation and parents of such students will be notified.
COVID-19 cases in SHS's
Some 14 SHS's recorded cases of of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after the students reported to school on June 22.
The schools include, Mawuli SHS, Mawuko Girls' SHS, Bishop Herman College, Dabala Technical School, Accra Girls SHS, Archbishop Porter Girls, Ahantaman Girls, Diabene and Adiembra SHS, Nsein SHS, Konongo Wesley SHS, Odorgonno SHS, Mfantsiman Girls SHS and Suhum Senior High Technical School (STHS).
Background
President Akufo-Addo as part of his gradual easing of restrictions imposed on the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, ordered a partial opening of schools for final year and 2nd year Gold Track students to enable the final year students to prepare for their final examinations and for the 2nd year Gold Track students to complete their first semester programme.
The students reported to school on the 22nd of June 2020 and the second-year year Gold Track students have gone completed their programmes. They are due to return to their homes on Friday, July 31, 2020.
