Parents, pupils rush for admission at Awudome Three JHS
About two hundred pupils accompanied by their parents last Friday thronged the Awudome Three Junior High School (JHS) to seek admission to the JHS Department.
The pupils, some of whom were from private primary schools, were selected after they had successfully passed an entrance examination in English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Integrated Science.
At the end of the examination, 120 out of the 200 pupils who sat for the examination were selected.
One successful student, Miss Irene Adjepong, said she chose the school because she believed it was one of the best in the metropolis.
She said although she attended a private school, “changing to a public school is not a big deal because the school is good”.
Her father, Mr Kwesi Adjepong, noted that he had always wanted his child to attend the Awudome Three JHS because the school was noted for producing outstanding BECE results.
Miss Carla Agyemang said: “People in my area who attended this school tended to get their first choice senior high schools.”
That, she said, confirmed that though it was a public school, “it is one of the best around”.
Her mother, Madam Josephine Frimpong, said her friends who attended the Awudome Three JHS many years ago were now working in reputable institutions such as the banks and other financial institutions.
“I see some of them in the banks and each time, I say to myself that one day my child would also attend this JHS,” she added.
Master Eric Tawiah also said some public schools produced great BECE results and the Awudome Three JHS was no exception because it has well-motivated teachers.
According to him, he was aware that the school produced one of the recipients of the Head of State Award Scheme two years ago.
