National Junior Graphic Spelling Competition launched

The Editor of the Junior Graphic, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, has launched the National Junior Graphic Spelling Competition with a call on students to continue reading to improve on their performance at school.

Mrs Kitcher urged members of the fan clubs to read more and widely and also to take their studies seriously during their formative years to become self-relevant and confident adults in future.

The Editor, who launched the competition at the Early Bird School at Taifa Burkina in Accra, said the contest was to assist children in basic schools to consolidate their reading skills through the correct spelling of words. 

She explained that children who read widely and developed their spelling skills became good writers and also confident students. 

The Junior Graphic Editor encouraged children to read more to aid them to be good students and advised them to diligently follow all issues of the Junior Graphic, which is dedicated to helping them to perform well in all aspects of their education.

“Do not waste your years in school but do the best for yourselves by studying to achieve your goals,” she advised children.

The Head of Marketing at Ecobank, Mr Kasser Tee, said in the bank’s bid to discharge its corporate social responsibility; it had introduced financial inclusion which involved encouraging children as well as adults to acquire the habit of savings.

He encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of savings by depositing small amounts of money they had in piggy banks provided to them by the bank so that when they obtained at least GH¢50, they could open Junior Saver Savings Accounts with Ecobank.

The Headmistress of the Early Bird School, Mrs Edith Valentine Gbekle, said the school was dedicated to  programmes that promoted academic excellence through discipline.

She added that, “the school is always ready to support students by any means necessary to ensure that they meet their academic potentials”. 

The students of the Early Bird School entertained the audience at the event with a spectacular cultural performance depicting the various traditional dances in Ghana to signify the unity among the people of Ghana.

The competition was among three participating schools, namely, the Falsyd Foundation School, the Perpetual Help School and the Early Bird School which are members of the Junior Graphic Fan Club. 

In the end, the Falsyd Foundation School came first, with the Early Bird and the Perpetual Help schools taking the second and third positions, respectively. 

They all took home prizes for their respective positions.

Falsyd Foundation will join the winning schools from the other zones in the quarter final contest.
