‘Instill discipline in children from childhood’

The Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church, Ghana, the Very Rev. Samson Laryea Adjei, has tasked parents to monitor their children during their formative years to identify the behaviours they pick up as they grow and guide them to be disciplined.

Speaking on the theme: ‘Our Culture, Our Heritage, Ancient and Modern’, during the 25th anniversary celebration of the King and Queen Academy at Abeka in Accra, Very Rev. Adjei urged parents to teach children the cultural values of the country since that would be of great use to them later in life.

‘‘Do not expose them to western cultures which are not in conformity with our culture. We are Africans and we should behave as such. Teach them their mother tongue, prepare most of our local dishes at home and let them experience our way of dressing’’, Very Rev. Adjei added.

Very Rev. Laryea Adjei, who is also the Superintendent Minister of the Kaneshie Circuit, advised parents against pampering their children by giving them everything they wish for because they have the resources to do so and pointed out that bringing up children that way would affect them negatively in future.

Established in 1991, the school has a population of more than 450 pupils.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the academy, Mrs Monica Addo-Darko, said the school was established to provide quality and affordable education to children.

She said the school was proud to place on record that its Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates continue to score 100 per cent passes every year, adding that students always got their first choice senior high schools after the placement exercise.

The vision of the school, according to Mrs Addo-Darko was to be a centre for academic and moral excellence so as to maintain high standards through hard work and discipline.
