Fan Club members study French

French students among the Trinity Academy Junior Graphic Fan Club have paid a visit to the Institute la Fontaine, a French international school at Kotobabi in Accra, for French language practicals.

The educational visit was the climax of the Trinity Academy’s French Week Celebration which is a regular academic event organised to enhance the study of French among the students.

A member of the Ghana Association of French Teachers and the Zonal Coordinator of Dome Kwabenya Ghana Association of French Teachers, Monsieur Rajab Illias, advised that French should not only be taught in the classroom but instead students should also be encouraged to visit French-speaking environments to enable them to practise what they study.

Monsieur Rajad,  who is also a French language instructor at the Trinity Academy at Dome Pillar Two in Accra,  observed that students in most schools only get to study French within a limited period of time in the classroom, adding that, “after that time French is forgotten till the following week.”

He said since French had been included in the educational curriculum, heads of schools should do their best to make the language attractive to students by apportioning enough time for its study in their various schools in order to improve the study of the language in the country.

Speaking to the Junior Graphic, the Headmaster of the Institute la Fontaine, Mr Moctar Alazam Latif,  urged Ghanaian students to take the study of French seriously since their francophone neighbours were very serious with the study of English.

Students from both schools interacted with one another and participated in activities such as singing, reading and the study of French. They also enjoyed a French meal called, ‘atcheke’.
