Thanks to Dancehall - Bastero
It has become a competitive genre which has “discovered” many young talents in the Ghanaian music industry and the growing strength of Dancehall has attracted many success stories for its players.
One such artiste who hopes to ink his name on the dancehall front with his works is Tema based artiste, Bastero.
For the man known in private life as Basit Ibrahim, it is important to laud the efforts of some “senior” dancehall artistes such as Samini, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale who set the pace for others like himself to emulate.
“I think it is important to appreciate the works of our senior men. We need to salute them because they have become a source of inspiration to some of us who initially were not sure we wanted to toe this path,” he said in an interview with Showbiz on Monday.

“ If we take our minds back to a decade or less, it was quite evident or probably an impression that dancehall music had no place in the Ghana music setting but for the past two years, the genre has produced not just the best artiste in the country but attracted international recognition when Stonebwoy won the BET Awards last year”.
According to Bastero, he nurtured his music craft during his Junior High School days and launched his maiden album, Discovery, in November last year at the Tawale Beach.
The album which has songs such as Wyne, Badmind, I Like, Akwai Daadi, Inna Mi Party and Link Up featured artistes such as Ras Kuku, VVIP, Larusso and Tinny has provided opportunities for Baestro, who also calls himself City Boss to perform on various platforms including Sallahfest and Stonebwoy’s Go Higher concerts last year.
Tomorrow, Bastero is throwing a birthday bash at the Hortical Night Club formally known as Boomerang, Kokomlemle where he will officially introduce him to the dancehall family.
“It’s been a long journey and I know it takes a lot of hard work to break through. I’m determined to work hard so that I can reap the positive results and enjoy the fame that comes with it. I have no excuse to fail, if others before me succeeded despite the challenges,” he added.
