God Is Good Borborbor to launch new album
Crisp Borborbor rhythms will ring out of the premises of the Goethe-Institut at Cantonments in Accra tomorrow, February 26, when the God Is Good Borborbor Group launches its Magbleo album.
Founded at Nungua by Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Deh, the God Is Good Borborbor group has made consistent efforts to inculcate contemporary elements into Borborbor rhythm and dance for nearly 12 years.
The album launch scheduled for 7.00pm is meant to showcase the authentic Borborbor vibes and also some of the new elements the group has brought to the age-old musical style from the Volta Region.
“People tend to assume that Borborbor and other traditional rhythms are stuck in time and there’s nothing new happening to them. That’s not true. The rhythms and the dances keep evolving and we invite everyone over to the Goethe-Institut to catch what I mean,” said Mr Deh.
With songs mostly in Ewe and a few in English, the 36-member God Is Good Borborbor relies on a variety of percussion instruments, a trumpet and vocals to whip up infectious rhythms that almost always pull people to dance.
Guest performers at the album launch will be the Dynamic Cultural Group and Ntuso Dance Company.
