That, she said, would not only help them to embrace new ideas but would also help them to appreciate diversity and promote mutual understanding for the future.

“You are the hope of tomorrow. The friendships you build across cultural lines will shape the world you inherit.

Your curiosity and willingness to embrace new ideas will pave the way for a future where borders are not barriers but bridges,” Ms Gomashie, who was speaking at the Galaxy International School’s 19th Intercultural festival in Accra, said.

Festival

The inter-cultural festival – an annual event geared towards reminding the world of the need to accept cultural differences and learn to live peacefully with each other – was chaired by the Member of Parliament for Adenta, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan.

It was on the theme, “Diversity in Harmony: The World as One”.

Students from different parts of the world showcased their culture by sharing with the audience their dance, music, food at the school which has wards from over 60 countries.

The event also featured an exhibition where students shared with parents and guests notable facts about their respective countries.

Rapper, Okyeame Kwame, also graced the occasion to share his experiences and highlights of the annual event.

Diversity

The sector minister called on the global community to embrace diversity as a means of ensuring peace and harmony in the world, adding, “Just as a skilled weaver carefully crafts each thread into a beautiful textile, so too can the global community weave together the fabric of a better world.

Each thread represents a unique individual, a diverse culture, and a different belief.”

She added that it was important for educators to imbibe in students virtues such as respect, empathy and acceptance.

“I urge you to continue fostering an environment where every child feels valued, regardless of their background.

Education is not merely about knowledge; it is about nurturing citizens who will champion peace and cooperation,” she emphasised.

Ms Gomashie also called on parents to plan in their homes, seeds of tolerance and respect, adding, ‘Teach your children that diversity is not something to fear—it is something to celebrate.”

World

For his part, the Managing Director of Galaxy International School, Mehmet Akmermer, called on the public to help make the world a better place of peace, love and unity regardless of their race and nationality.

“In a world often torn apart by division and contention, it is important that we show compassion and understanding.

Instead of seeing our differences as barriers, let us embrace them as the vibrant colours that enrich the fabric of humanity,” he added.
