MTN Mobile money customers can now receive money from abroad.

MTN mobile money customers can now receive money from relatives abroad through their mobile phones, Mr William Tettey, the General Manager, Capital Project Group, MTN has said.

He explained that with the help of partners like Lyca, World Remit, Xpress Money and several others, customers can now receive money from abroad instantly on their phones.

"Ghanaians in UK, Australia, Switzerland, Qatar, etc are able to send money to their relatives and friends via this service," he added.

Speaking at the launch of this year's Mobile Money month campaign, Mr Tettey said the overall objective of the celebration is to deliver financial services at affordable costs to all segments of the Ghanaian society.

He said mobile money had expanded its services to include the payment of utility  and DSTV bills, payment of school fees, bulk payments among others.

According to Mr Tettey, MTN mobile money had climbed up the ladder with 4.8 million registered Mobile Money customers, 19,500 Mobile Money merchants and 18.5 million monthly transactions.

As part of creating awareness of MTN Mobile Money services at the launch, stakeholders and customers were educated through theatre performance of the benefits of using mobile money to transact any kind of business.

Mr Tettey said there will be an MTN Mobile Money stakeholder workshop stated for Wednesday, August 12 2015 to discuss this year's theme, "Driving financial inclusion in Ghana".

He outlined some other activities to be undertaken, including the SME Drive, Market activations, and merchant Fora as well as fraud awareness trainings for the merchants.
