Ghanaian exhibitors express mixed reaction over patronage at Lagos Fair

Halfway into the 2018 Lagos International trade fair in Nigeria, some Ghanaian exhibitors have expressed mixed feelings about patronage.

While some said that generally the organisation was good and have expressed their satisfaction, others said their expectations have not yet been met.

The producer of Life Gold Natural Cocoa Powder, Ms Mrs Gifty Tagbor, described the fair as good and said it was an interesting opportunity to trade and business in West Africa.

“We already have agents in Nigeria and we always sell here. So, we are now seeking to sell franchise here so we can focus on other countries within ECOWAS,” she said.

Ms Mavis of Fountain Life Foods, said last year's fair was better than 2018. She is, however, grateful to the GEPA for facilitating her participation.

“I appreciate them for transporting my goods and securing a stand for me. I will only suggest that going forwards next time they should bring each exhibitor with a different product. They products should not clash especially if it is a new exhibitor,” she stated.

The Export Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Ltd, Mr Stephen Normeshie, said they have given a lot their products a lot of exposure.

“So far so good. People are making enquiries. We are also trying to register with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control here in Nigeria, we are talking to prospective agents,” he stated.

He said they are also entering the Nigerian market with new bottles but same products.

Ms Genevieve Baidoo of Dazzle Collections and Ms Amamatu Otoo of Matu-Otoson Ventures, are both happy at the turn of events and are hopeful that patronage will soar getting to the end of the fair.

“We will only ask that next time they improve publicity for the event,” Ms Otoson said.

However, Madam Celestina Osei-Bonsu of God’s Wisdom Artifacts, said things were not moving unlike previous fairs and said most visitors at the fair complain of economic hardships.

She called for an improved security and adequate accreditation to be provided.

About 30 exhibitors from Ghana displayed various good and services including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, food products, palm oil, handicrafts, textiles, African wear, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and herbal products, and aluminium products.
