EVE International Foundation empowers Makola Market women on health, legal, and economic issues

To commemorate International Women's Day, the EVE International Foundation, a women's non-profit organisation, organised a health and legal engagement programme for women at Makola Market on Friday, March 8, 2025.

The event, themed "Celebrating Women at the Grassroot for Economic Empowerment," aimed to educate and empower women on health issues, estate management, and succession planning.

As part of the programme, a team of female doctors, pharmacists, and nurses provided free health screenings for over 200 market women, checking their blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and general wellness.

Addressing participants, Dr Vanessa Kabu, a board member of the Foundation, discussed critical health issues, including hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol, stressing the need for preventive measures and proper management.

On the legal front, Yram Abra Attakumah Esq. delivered a session on Estate Management and Succession Planning, urging women to take proactive steps to secure their families' financial futures. Many of the participants expressed gratitude, admitting they had little prior knowledge about the importance of estate planning.

The Executive Director of EVE International Foundation, Mrs Catherine Morton, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to bridging the gender gap through economic empowerment. She stated that the Foundation will intensify grassroots activities this year to reach and support more women.

Additionally, Madam Yayra Portia Klu, EVE Envoy for Governance, called for greater female participation in governance, encouraging women to seize leadership opportunities and prepare to benefit from the upcoming Women's Development Bank.

This initiative marks the first in a series of programmes aimed at supporting women in informal sectors across Ghana. Similar engagements are planned for other major markets nationwide to ensure consistent access to health and legal education.

The event was supported by Quality Insurance Company, Ghana Health Service, and MTN Ghana.
