Ernest Thompson elected chairman on ISSA committee
The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr Ernest Thompson, has been elected as Chairman of the Technical Commission on Investment of Social Security Funds at the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
The election was conducted at the just-ended ISSA conference in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr Thompson’s elevation makes him the first African to chair that commission.
A release issued in Accra and signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Ms Eva Amegashie, described the Technical Commission on Investment of Social Security Fund as an eight-member body whose work focused on improving governance structures and processes (through the vehicle of the ISSA investment guidelines), improving analysis of the management and performance of reserve funds (ISSA Reserve Monitor) and sharing information and monitoring of investment practices of social security organisations world-wide.
The commission also contributes to the development, promotion and training programmes of the ISSA Centre of Excellence Academy. It also participates in their relevant ISSA events like the actuarial and research conferences and regional for a.

ISSA is the world’s international organization for social security organisations. As an affiliate of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), ISSA provides information, research, expert advice and platforms for members to build and promote dynamic systems and policy worldwide.
The release said SSNIT has been a member of the ISSA since 1986, and its was the first social security organisations, South of the Sahara to convert its Provident Fund Scheme into a pension scheme.
