Independence Armwrestling Challenge set for March 15 with top officials in attendance
The 2025 Independence Armwrestling Challenge is set to take place on Saturday, March 15, at the Centre Point Mall in Accra, with several high-profile dignitaries expected to grace the event.
The Sports and Recreational Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, will be among the special guests in attendance.
Other notable figures expected at the championship include Ayawaso West Wuogon MP John Dumelo, MP for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere Duah, Dr. Bello Bitigu, and Kwadwo Baah Agyeman, alongside officials from the Ghana Armwrestling Board and corporate institutions.
The four-nation event, which commemorates Ghana's Independence Celebration, Ghana Month, and the Golden Arms' historic success at the 13th African Games, will feature top athletes from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo, competing against Ghana’s finest pullers in a display of raw strength and skill.

Led by world champion Grace Minta, Team Ghana has been in camp for weeks, fine-tuning their skills ahead of the challenge. Other top competitors, including Wisdom Abromekyi, Mabel Yeboah, Edward Asamoah, Joseph Tabel, Daniel Acquah, and Florence Boakye, will also be battling for the ultimate bragging rights.
President of Ghana and Africa Armwrestling, Charles Osei Asibey, has described the championship as part of the federation’s plan to celebrate Ghana’s impressive performance at the African Games while preparing for future international competitions.
"Armwrestling is a household sport, and everybody loves it. It has become the sport of choice. We made history at the Africa Games for the first time, and Ghanaians have since shown so much love for the sport," he said.
He encouraged the public to show up in large numbers to support Team Ghana’s Golden Arms as they seek another victory.
The Independence Armwrestling Challenge is sponsored by Centre Point Mall, Flora, and United Media, with support from BrandSurge Marketing, Blynxlivegh, and live coverage on GHOne TV, Metro TV, and Original TV at 5pm on Saturday.
